There is a famous saying that what the caterpillar perceives as the end, to the butterfly, it is just the beginning. I try to remember that a day lived to its fullest is a day that will never be lost. Do that for 365 days in a year (X) # days until death, and it leaves a lasting legacy.
Yesterday is gone. Today is here. Do your best to make it a good one. Start with simple acts of kindness. It will do your heart good. Keep it in there. Don’t go out seeking rewards for your good deeds. That’s not what it’s about.
Galatians 1:10 “Obviously I’m not trying to win the approval of people, but of God. If pleasing people were my goal, I would not be Christ’s servant.”
Lol, you just picked my brain so I listened to it, my Aunt used to play music from that era. Must have had that tucked away in my subconscious. If she were still alive she would still be playing all her oldies. She was a lot of fun. I miss her. Thanks for sharing :-)
I find myself telling my kids ‘That was yesterday’ time to move on. when I have to talk them down off a cliff. Teen drama. Timeless advice.
Personally I'm not too bothered about bad English, as long as the meaning is clear. We English have to develop a thick skin while others around the globe murder our language!
At one point he and Ginny visited the Soviet Union. They spent a lot of time in Moscow and couldn't see how it could possibly have the official population claimed for it. They wrote up their findings. Nobody in the gooferment of the USA did anything about the lies. I think Bob began to see how deceptive his govt was at that point.
One man after burying another has been laid out dead, and another buries him; and all this in a short time. Hippocrates after curing many diseases himself fell sick and died.. and lice killed Socrates... What means all this? ...All human things are smoke, and nothing at all; and it is not for us but for the gods, to settle whether we play the play out, or only a part of it. Pass then through this little space of time conformably to nature and tend thy journey in content, just as the olive falls off when it is ripe, thanking nature that produced it and the tree on which it grew. Do not act as if you were going to live 10,000 years. While you live, while you are able, be good.
Intriguing suggestions there emperor dude Marcus Aurelius. But pretty sure it was the hemlock he drank that killed Socrates. And God says our souls last forever, which is longer than ten thousand years. God's will be done. Amen.
It's not how Socrates and Plato wrote of the experience. Socrates believed that the Athens city state owned the life of Socrates and could kill him if it chose. He was nuts imnsfho. His contemporaries expected him to escape into exile. He chose instead to drink the hemlock. Even some who voted to condemn him to death may have expected him to flee in the event. So I would say that Marcus was promiscuous in his views of the character of those who condemned Socrates. On top of which, the accusation of corrupting the morals of the youth of Athens seems valid and substantiated. I am not ambivalent about the matter, nor is God. "Be fruitful and multiply" is a commandment and homosexuality is not consistent with obeying that commandment. God's will be done. Amen.

I believe in the sun, even when it isn’t shining
I believe in love, even when it isn’t shown
I believe in God, even when He does not speak

The human spirit is amazing.
Wow!! 😢
Sometimes God isn’t talking because He wants us intently listening so when He does talk it’s abundantly clear it’s Him.
Welcome on board new subs, and THANK YOU!!

Second best three words ever!👌
Respect. Respect yourself and everyone else. It would fix everything.

Ascribe to be nothing and then you can be everything.
Well that's an impressive collection of wisdom: thanks.
I would just point out that the question you are answering is better phrased as "what do you believe in", not "what do you believe".
Confusingly, the English language has 3 different meanings for "believe" that I can think of.
1 Hold too be true. "I believe that the Earth is an oblate spheroid, not flat".
2 Advocate an attitude or principle. "I believe in equality of opportunity".
3 Suspect, but am not sure. "Has the rubbish been collected yet?"
"I believe so ".
Am I "sweating the small stuff", or trying to advocate thinking clearly?!
😠
I believe you're correct.
That's how it came out of his mouth though. If only guy with pastoral degree was an etymologist (grammatician?).
What I wish I'd done is quoted what's his name and said " Everyone has to believe in something. I believe I'll have another beer" :)

Cheers!! Here's to what's-his-name!

I love Heinlein
He wrote plenty of good stuff.

A thing worth doing is worth doing very well.

Aurelius, Meditations

Lice is metaphor for those who forced him to drink it
Yep, Socrates was prolly the first fighter of CXL culture.

I view Aurelius though a modern lens. I take what seems to apply (95 percent) and don't worry about the rest.
Interesting take. Thanks
My favorite aphorisms come from William Blake's Marriage of Heaven and Hell. It's enough, or too much.
Never pay retail. Protect what you have. Only trade up.
Also: "Seek ye first the Kingdom of Heaven, and everything else will be granted unto you." Matthew 6:33
"Live every day as if it were your last. And someday you will be right!"
It's a sign! (well, actually many...)
