Being sober 15+ yrs has it's drawbacks. 😒

The ol' guy and I have made a pact that when little Castreau meets his demise at the end of a Nuremberg sponsored rope or similar, we will celebrate by getting stinking smashed.

Now I have a goal with pāntsdrunk.

Thanks for the hilariously written post, Jimy 😘

NEW NORDIC WELLNESS TREND!!

WHEN IS THE LAST TIME YOU WERE righteously Päntsdrunk?

Enter Kalsarikannit. Why many people prefer the rugged realness of Päntsdrunk in our dystopian post-Covidian World.

So when did this change occur?

"That is the kind of liberal I have been for about fifty years now. But there is no one calling themselves a “liberal” today who fits this definition"

Today’s Left has zero willingness to “respect or accept” differing opinions. They don’t believe in individual rights or civil liberties, and certainly not free enterprise. They are concerned with Orwellian “hate speech,” not free speech.

Portland Is Seriously Baffled by its Broken Windows Epidemic.

Yes, really. You’d think that, after all this time, Portland might have caught a clue about how to stop the trashing of its city, even though there’s literally a theory of policing called The Broken Windows Theory Of Policing

Finns have it nailed! This is why they're the happiest of the Nordics. :) Here in Sweden we have lagom and also mys (link below to info) which is basically, Swedish hygge. But, in Sweden sales of alcohol are State controlled, and it can only be bought at the State owned alcholol stores, Systembolaget. And their opening hours aren't what you'd call user friendly, so anyone coming to Sweden, bear that in mind and stock up for the weekends/whenever.

HUGE overgeneralisation here, but...what the hel. :) Danes have the art of stylish winter cosiness down perfectly. Norwegians are possibly the most fun during wintertime, outgoing, friendly, fearless and outdoorsy even in sub zero temps that make everyone else balk at putting their noses out of doors. Swedes have the art of homely cosiness down to a T...for example, here on the edge of our village, and this far north in the dark depths of winter, the homes are like fairytale cottages...all candlelight and fairy lights, Swedes hate harsh lighting so it's all soft and glimmering. This far north, folks go out on sparkstottingen, kick sleds, and we often haul sleds behind us to carry shopping, dogs, or children. Most folks skie or use skidoos. And sled and hunting dogs are everywhere, even in outside kennels, and given many of them are also wolf bred, the sound of howling is a frequent harmony in the dark night skies.

But the Finns have it nailed imo. Stay home, be informal, drink happily and if you're so inclined, have friends round to party/talk/watchweirdshitontv.

The winter climate in the Nordics means each country has developed their ways of coping with it. Where others get SAD or simply the dark winter blues, we can make a virtue of revelling in the dark nights because, candles, log fires, northern lights and the quiet a blanket of snow brings. For anyone not wanting to drink, we have a huge array of non alcoholic beers, wines etc. And food. Lots of food is a must.

Though, note to Swedes, please try and expand on the cinnamon love! I love it too but it's in everything!

Where I live is in the middle of forest, on the edge of a village. I get to hand feed wild deer as they come to people's doors looking for carrots and apples. I get to listen to the occasional wolf howl and elk roar. And there's something about deep snow that just transforms everything and makes it look beautiful, no matter where folks are.

Nowhere is perfect of course. But if you are craving winter cosiness (or if you visit Norway, winter sports and activity) you could do worse than visit the Nordic nations.

No, the tourist board isn't paying me anything. I'm Scots born, though I live here in Sweden. I think that gives me the appreciation an incomer often has for what some Swedes can take for granted.

Great article! Choices are always good. I'm too old now for being pantsdrunk, sadly. But a glass of warm spiced wine on a freezing cold night is always welcome. And I reserve the right to keep my long thermals on.
