We CAN Have Nice Things that Last and Work!
I TOOK THE AFTERNOON OFF and got schooled in Craftmanship and Quality...
I just found an old Evinrude that’s been sitting in a garage for years.
Mixed up a fresh batch of two cycle gas for the old school two-line pressure tank at 30:1 ratio (just a guess… anyone?) and pumped the priming button a few times.
It started first pull. FIRST PULL!!
(My Honda four-stroke outboard doesn’t even do that)
They don’t make stuff like this anymore!
I googled the serial number quessing it was a late 80’s model..
18 HP, 1957
NINETEEN FIFTY SEVEN!!!
Built like a tank, Runs like a top and takes an aluminum boat to 25mph almost SEVENTY years later!
Yes, we can have nice things that work for a lifetime!
Bonus:
Spiral staircase in the State Capitol Law Library in Iowa (USA) 1886.
Can we even build things like this anymore? Do we even want to?
Is human progress really linear?
Anyone with the same model who needs a new prop, shear pin, prop nut and cotter pin, I just saved you 3 hours of research: :) https://www.ebay.com/itm/254475687100

I got tired of waiting for replacement so a castle nut and shear pin from ACE HARDWARD did the trick (no one else carried it including HD or Lowes) so, just the prop above, the correct castle nut over a washer, tightened down somewhat snugly, put cotter pin through hole and the "castle" after putting prop onto the shaft (with the cotter pin in place through the shaft already of course) ENJOY! I doing aprox 4mph faster now!
1957 - that's impressive! I was created then too; I'm not sure I'm running quite so reliably as earlier!
