I'm not a copyright lawyer, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night!
I would assume that there are ex post facto limitations on the registration of a trade name, because this sort of thing could happen. That being said, the anime shows might not be able to use it anymore (from this point on). But honestly, it depends on whether McDonald's registered it as a trade name.
I looked on my WcDonald's bag, but I didn't see anything that said WcDonald's was copyrighted. I'll have to check again when I see one of the sauce packets.

It’s a promotion by McDonald’s as a reference to “WcDonald’s” which is basically how animes name the fast food chain in order to prevent copyright.
By McDonald's doing this, would it now be associated with them and prevent anime from continued use of WcDonalds? 🤔
