There's variations on that movie. Star Trek "A Taste of Armageddon" episode where two sides in a conflict agreed to a peaceful lottery where those who died in a simulated attack would enter a chamber and were summarily killed. Logan's Run had a similar premise to have equilibrium and due to dwindling resources, no one was allowed to live past the age of 21.
"The Island" with Ewan McGregor and Scarjo also deal with a similar issue. All of these shows warn of the tyranny often following "utopian" type thinking.
We have many stories warning of this kind of thing. Watching Westworld through the pandemic brought a lot of these same issues to the fore. That's one of the things about science fiction, is you can say the controversial out loud because the context is shifted enough so as not to trigger the filters.
D. Keith Mano's (early 70's) "The Bridge"--all humans are reduced to their food being a pill consumed once per day, and then having to sit in bleachers of a stadium, waiting in terrible gastric pain while their organs try to 'digest' the nutritive chemical.
Jerry Sohl's "Point Ultimate"-- with a mandated-for-all untermenschen vax, memory of which returned to me in March '20--as being eerily prophetic.
And Heinlein and Azimov in their various books about robots, and the First Principle of robots--which was broken this week in the Tesla "accident"
