Early Morning Rain... by Gordon Lightfoot... first heard Peter, Paul, and Mary recording.
Our father didn't like us talking while he was driving, but was okay with my sister being our 'choir director' to keep us under control. My mother would type up the list of songs we could sing during the road trips. Great memories.
One early Spring long, long ago, I with several school chums decided to head to Ft. Lauderdale from the wilds of East TN and see what all of the "Spring Break" hype was about. . Booze and wild women was the infantile hope of all (no one achieved anything other than sunburn, hangover and sand in unmentionable places). Our driver was the one reality-based of us who had gone straight to work from HS at the local Coca-Cola distributer. He had a real job with a decent income and had purchased a '68 Chevy Impala (convertible, navy blue, 327 with a 4 barrel and 4 in the floor as I recall). It was equipped with a then-new 8 track deck - we had 2 tapes with us - The Doors and the Beatles' White Album. We played those things non-stop all the way to and from Florida....
