Wow. The future's gonna be great..

New Scientist reports that AI-empowered Ukrainian drones are hunting down and bombing enemy targets without human assistance. This is the first confirmed use of autonomous weapons in a battlefield setting. Though the drones target tanks and other hardware, not individual soldiers, New Scientist says “it is almost certain that the resulting explosions are killing Russian soldiers without a direct command from a human operator.” Military tech expert Paul Scharre (who discussed military uses of AI on the Nonzero podcast earlier this year) told New Scientist that autonomous drones are prone to “false positives.”...

Russian aircraft now on permanent patrol of the Black and carrying Russia’s hypersonic Kinzhal missiles would have ended in the following: the Russian missiles can strike the U.S. aircraft carrier task force off Israeli shores and two of them are sufficient to send the Gerald Ford to the bottom of the sea.

I am thinking maybe Israel is not going to perform this ground assault.

If they do they’ll be opening up a huge can of worms; that’s urban combat which is the worst. By nature of what I do (www.shotandastory.org) speaking with Veterans about their military experiences, I’ve spoken to Marine Veterans of Hue City 1968 during the Tet Offensive which was a huge urban brawl. Fighting house-to-house, street-by-street, room-by-room incurs immense casualties & the destruction of the urban area only benefits the defender. It’s an infantry battle since tanks can’t move thru rubble-strewn streets & are exposed to anti-tank weapons @ point blank range. Probably the most famous urban battle is Stalingrad of course, but others include Kharkov (3x), Manila 1945, & Seoul 1950.

If the IDF moves into Gaza history would show that it’s going to be a meat grinder.

I hope you are right but I read on Drudge that the IDF has texted soldiers to be on standby for the ground invasion. :-(

So far... nothing so maybe. Running a bunch of escalated scenarios in my head, none of them seem favourable to the West. Russia could easily take out the US carrier fleet with hypersonics. Hezbollah could defeat Israel and then you got Turkey, the biggest power in the region, whose sympathies lie closer to the Muslim world. It's not a winning strategy for the West.

Russia Invests Heavily in Egypt – Sun City – Nuclear Power

There is nothing that the West can provide to Egypt to surpass what Arab and Eastern nations have done for its economy. The Egypt-Russia Trade and Investment Summary (YTD) 2022 indicates that Moscow and Cairo will continue to strengthen its relationship. A key to this report is that Russia is helping Egypt produce its first nuclear power plant, financing 85% of the project. El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant will be positioned 320 kilometers from Cairo. But this deal initially began in 2015 when Russia promised to finance the project, and signed preliminary contracts in December 2017. The total project is set to cost $28.7 billion.

Interesting thread:

"I’d just add that Russia began to turn the tide in the Ukraine war when they inked the drone deal with Iran . Iran supports these rebel factions and that means they more than likely have the same drone technology and thus this will certainly have a big impact on tanks and other old military ground equipment BiBi has. But this whole exercise from a US point of view is to finish the Wes Clark 7 ; Lebanon and Iran are the last 2 on the list. https://youtu.be/Eo6u9DpASp8?si=3Nqeg8mMevfHnXiN

This journalist has just brought me back down to earth. The things happening in Palestine you would not wish on your worse enemy. Her description of the racism and dehumanising is abhorrent. Amira Hass, thoughts are sobering. Listen

As Israel continues its campaign of airstrikes in Gaza, new reports reveal the Chinese People’s Liberation Army has stationed six warships in the Middle East this week.

The PLA’s 44th naval escort task force was in Oman conducting joint exercises with the country’s navy during routine operations that have seen the ships in the area since May. The ships included a guided-missile destroyer, an integrated supply ship, and a frigate.

The Justice Department said Wednesday that IT workers dispatched and contracted by North Korea to work remotely with companies in St. Louis and elsewhere in the U.S. have been using false identities to get the jobs. The money they earned was funneled to the North Korean weapons program, FBI leaders said at a news conference in St. Louis.
