Playing old records while running updated crypto and market charts on a rainy Saturday afternoon, I came across this old musty jacket full of handwritten notes nobody can remember the meaning of..
This recording includes Barry Manilow as a kid with his grandpa in 1950s.
He added the old Wollensak clip to his 1973 record album “Sing It”.
It's adorable.
Enjoy
Here's another gem with Manilow “rapping” or scatting or something.
That’s just how it sounds. I was listening on vinyl and I thought it was a problem with my player, but nope lol it’s the song.
Listen!
There's something about selecting and putting on a record that is entirely missing from the digital experience of playing a file or even an old CD. Each record package is a work of art, carefully preserved scratch free, thanks to generations of scolding parents and near misses. The experience of opening, the decade old smells and slight mustiness all lend to the feeling that you are about to create and appreciate a musical event rather than clicking through a random playlist.
I highly recommend investing the $50 for a blue-tooth enabled record player from WMT and a stack of 25 cent gems from the Armie de Salvacion warehouse. You can find first editions still in original wrap.
(If I had time, I'd start an Amazon biz. Some of these are worth hundreds or even thousands of dollars in the right collectors hands)
It's addicting.
There's no beating the aural bliss of listening to old vinyl. When that was the predominant format I didn't like the pops and cracks, to me it meant the record hadn't been taken care of. Now those sounds are heavenly.
Hubs and I were born in the 60s. We have milk crates upon milk crates filled with vinyl. No turntable. 😢
