Here’s something that has saved me thousands over the last five years. I’ve bought one for my spouse and each of my driving age kids, and use one between my various vehicles myself (yep, you just move the sensor when needed, and add a vehicle profile to the app)
Imagine your 19 year old calls dad because of a funny noise the car is making and they are freaked out because they have an important commute tomorrow and don’t know if the car will be working. You simply remind them that they have FIXD on their phone and to tap it for a new scan.
A few seconds later, they have a full set of codes, with severity analysis for their pre-programmed make and model, simple tests to exclude various possibilities, cost estimates, and DIY fix it’s they can attempt themselves, with videos, if desired.
Not to sound sexist here, but, if you have daughters driving, this is especially useful for helping them keep the upper hand and make sure they don’t get ripped off at the repair shop. Better yet, to be able to know the estimated cost and bargain HARD for a 15% discount, and another 5% for paying in cash (remember cash?) when the job is done.
I know there are much fancier scanners. I own a $300 one I haven’t touched in a few years. I used FIXD all the time, even if just to remind me of oil changes (how far can I push a full synthetic oil change) recall notices, manufacturer scheduled maintainance. etc.
I started with premium and just have the basic now. It’s dirt cheap and probably all you need. Either way, start with basic and they’ll send you a teaser discount in a month or two you can use if you like. I’m happy with the basic.
BONUS: THIS 67% DISCOUNT SITE IS STILL ACTIVE FROM PRIME DAY. Thats $20 bucks for the whole thing including universal sensor which pops in near the drivers knee level under dash, and just stays there)
Is that worth a STNN Substack subscription? LMK :)

Here’s the full description from an online review of FIXD:
Anyone with a car who wants to skip going to a mechanic for the diagnostic step when its “check engine” light comes on can benefit from FIXD. It offers an affordable way to monitor your vehicle’s health and quickly learn about issues as they arise. While it can’t tell you everything that’s wrong with your vehicle, it still stands as one of the most comprehensive solutions for identifying issues with your vehicle.
How does FIXD work?
FIXD is an automobile diagnostic tool that connects to your vehicle to offer real-time insights into vehicle health. The FIXD sensor monitors your car’s systems and alerts you to any issues through its mobile application. Currently, FIXD is able to read and diagnose only check engine lights. Other lights like air bag, maintenance and stability control are not read.
Once an issue is identified, FIXD offers detailed explanations of the problem and estimated repair costs. A FIXD sensor is connected to your vehicle’s On-Board Diagnostic 2 (OBD2) port. OBD2 ports are typically located under the dashboard, beneath the steering wheel column. You can consult your vehicle owner’s manual for your port’s exact location. FIXD sensors are easy to install and work with all gas-powered cars and trucks built after 1996.

FIXD services
FIXD provides a comprehensive solution for car diagnostics and maintenance. The FIXD sensor connects to your car’s OBD2 port, then transmits data to the smartphone app. The app interprets check engine light and diagnostic codes, while providing detailed explanations of issues and solutions. It also offers estimated repair costs and a map of nearby repair shops.
In addition to vehicle health monitoring, FIXD tracks maintenance schedules. It alerts you to upcoming service needs. The FIXD app is free, with subscription based premium options.
Premium benefits include emissions precheck, issue forecast and a mechanic hotline. Emissions precheck looks for potential emissions issues before a smog test (if your state requires one). Additionally, issue forecasting predicts future issues or areas of concern. The goal of forecasting is to fix an issue before it becomes bigger and more costly.
How much does FIXD cost?
A fixed OBD2 sensor costs $59.99. The mobile application is free to download and has an additional cost for a premium subscription. The premium subscription is available for $8.99 per month or $69.99 per year.
Stick with cold pressed extra virgin olive oil. We didn't have Alzheimers 60 years ago!

You won't touch fast food for weeks...
Shocking... Vani Hari, also known as the Food Babe: "This is McDonald's French fries. I would like to argue that probably nobody in this room has not had a McDonald's French fries by the way. Nobody raised their hand during the staff meeting earlier today. In the US there's 11 ingredients. In the UK there's three and salt is optional. An ingredient called polydimethylsiloxane is an ingredient preserved with formaldehyde, a neurotoxin, in the U.S. version. This is used as a foaming agent so they don't have to replace the oil that often, making McDonald's more money here in the United States. But they don't do that across the pond. This is Skittles. Notice the long list of ingredient differences. 10 artificial dyes in the US version and titanium dioxide. This ingredient is banned in Europe because it can cause DNA damage. Artificial dyes are made from petroleum and products containing these dyes require a warning label in Europe that states it may cause adverse effects on activity and detention in children. And they have been linked to cancer and disruptions in the immune system. This on the screen back here is Gatorade. In the US, they use Red 40 and Caramel Color. In Germany, they don't. They use carrot and sweet potatoes to color their Gatorade. This is Doritos. The US version has three different artificial dyes and MSG. The UK version does not. And let's look at cereal. General Mills is definitely playing some tricks on us. They launched a new version of tricks just recently in Australia. It has no dyes. They even advertise that when the US version still does. This is why I became a food activist. My name is Vani Hari, and I only want one thing. I want Americans to be treated the same way as citizens in other countries by our own American companies.
