The Twelfth iteration of the famous GoPro camera is out, and that means previous models have plummeted in price.

If you want to get started with easy-as-pie travel videos for sharing or even to start a simpleVlog (video blog) you can now do it for less than $100.

I suggest you grab the GoPro Hero 7 Black. It’s the oldest (2020-ish) version that still has all the new cool stuff like:

-wifi connection to your smartphone (view and control everything from your cell.. really cool especially if the camera’s on a tripod or on a helmet or bike mount.

-A view screen (no more waiting to replay on your computer like the earlier versions)

-Hypersmooth video (you don’t need that $400 gyro gimbal thingy anymore!)

-Replacable battery (carry 2 or 3 extra with you for all-trip shooting)

-dozens of time-lapse and frame rate/ISO/color settings if you want to get deep into the weeds, otherwise just set it to default and push the button on the camera or you linked smartphone when you want to start recording.

The GoPro Hero 7 Black will will take cutting edge video and is literally a cinema camera in your pocket.

If you buy new or “amazon refurbished” on Amazon, you’ll often get a case and even an extra battery thrown in. This is all you need to get started, although you will need a micro memory card too (you probably have a few kicking around the house already).

For accessories once you’re ready, I’d get a selfie stick (for high angle shots and just walking around) and any decent backpack strap clip mount (for walking etc), and maybe a waterproof case (even thought the camera itself is rated past 30ft deep. Just search for the cheapest ones on Amazon.
