“Live like Someone Left the Gate Open”
All those people who didn't see the camera, little did they know they were being filmed and that people in the future would watch them on film long after they passed away.. It's so wild to think about.
The fact that the oldest first film ever made is that of another planet in motion is absolutely astounding!
My entire life I’ve always wondered how etiquette and daily mobility in people’s lives worked, and that train video , the kid with the hat and his mom, the two women talking just so casually, the woman running and holding her hat …. It just fills so many missing emotional historical questions, this is great, it shows they are just people, and even 15 decades later, that still hasn’t changed. We all still are just, human (at least for now…)
Every soul captured in their moments were just like us in essentially every way. They had the same dreams, the same humor, appetite, worries about kids not respecting their elders, what others thought of them, the same aches and pains. Very little actually changes. But its great to see this in moving motion. Glad they've been saved.
So go ahead and take those pictures and videos of your loved ones and don't let them talk you out of it.
They'll appreciate it when they're older and wiser. So will their kids, and great great grandbots 150 years from now.
These earliest film clips are a reminder that people come and go. It was their time and now it's ours. Your time here is a gift. Don’t squander it.
Don’t sweat the small stuff (it’s almost all small stuff).
Live your best.

This is an utterly fascinating rare collection of amateur film capturing the first year of Nazi occupation in France, 1940.
You'll be blown away.
